Part Two – When the Swans Came to the Lake

It started with psychedelics and it’s ending with psychedelics.
God came through the cosmos in an orange little pill. Yellow sunshine opened the minds of a generation. Universal love, peace and goodwill seemed like a possibility. Along with the drugs came the guru’s and baba’s and Sri’s.
The Hindu groups were very colorful and brought swirling dancing, mantras, shakti bolts of energy, Hari Hari’s dancing and chanting. The Tibetans brought a whole pantheon of gods and goddesses. Cooperative communities and home-grown gurus abounded.
The Buddhist from the forest of Burma were the least pretentious with the simplest systems or practices. The “SWANS CAME TO THE LAKE” and the “LIVING BUDDHIST MASTERS” seeded thousands of meditations centers.
“BE HERE NOW”’s Ram Das, Richard Alpert gave his guru a handful of LSD. He didn’t react; he didn’t “trip out”. He was HERE NOW, totally aware of his body sensations, naturally “tripping”. The closest similar experience to my “psychedelic” trip in 1969 with the dissolution of my body was fifteen years later on a ten-day Vipassana Retreat.
The experiential connection between psychedelics and mindful meditation is obvious and observable. Michael Pollen’s HOW TO CHANGE YOUR MIND, has become the Johnny Appleseed book for psychedelic microdosing, a gateway to mindfulness.
